How to Prepare for your Cabinet Painting

November 10, 2025

Looking to remodel your kitchen by refacing or painting your cabinets? The thought of packing up your entire kitchen might seem daunting, but it’s necessary for professionals to work on your cabinets. That’s why we’ve compiled our best tips to simplify the kitchen cabinet painting prep process at

  • Figure Out Food Storage - It’s easy to underestimate the amount of items stored in your kitchen cabinets and pantry and all of your food items MUST be removed from the space before ANY painting can start (you can keep items in your fridge/freezer)
  • Keep plenty of boxes or storage bins nearby to safely and easily transport your food to and from the painting area
  • All tables, chairs and movable furniture will be removed from the room as well.
  • Plan on Paper and Plastic: Before we begin any painting, we completely cover the entire space with plastic wrapping and tape to ensure no extra paint goes where it shouldn't!
  • But also your silverware?: Yes! If you have a large cabinet painting job, it may take a day or two to paint and dry. Make sure that you have access to paper and plastic silverware just in case.
  • Clear the Space: You'll want to remove all of the appliances, storage bins, mats, dishes and more from your countertops and shelves. Even your floors should be clean so our crews have the most space to tackle your project!.
  • Eating Out: Consider having a few meals out of the house or delivered while the team is finishing your cabinet painting job.
